Sandra Arias-Ortiz
Sandra Arias-Ortiz, born in San Francisco and raised in Stockton, California, developed a deep passion for the violin from a young age. At nine years old, she eagerly joined her elementary school orchestra, and since that moment, her bond with the instrument has been unbreakable.
Following high school, Sandra furthered her education at the University of California, Davis. There, she earned a Bachelor of Science in Community and Regional Development and a Bachelor of Arts in Chicano Studies. Alongside these degrees, she nurtured her love for music by minoring in the subject and joining the UC Davis Symphony. As she pursued her academic ambitions, Sandra continued to indulge her passion for mariachi, performing with various groups across Northern California.
Today, Sandra navigates her professional life in higher education. Recently, she earned a Master’s degree in Leadership at University of the Pacific, specializing in Organizational Innovation and Change, with a focus on researching women's experiences in the mariachi industry. This research has deepened her sense of connection and shared purpose within the mariachi community.
As a founding member of Mariachi Bonitas, Sandra has found a supportive and empowering environment. She attributes her growth and motivation to the dynamic group of women that constitute Bonitas. Her membership in this group is a source of immense pride and gratitude for Sandra, who believes it provides a space for her dreams to be nurtured and respected.

Sandra Arias-Ortiz, nacida en San Francisco y criada en Stockton, California, desarrolló una profunda pasión por el violín desde muy joven. A los nueve años, se unió con entusiasmo a la orquesta de su escuela primaria, y desde ese momento, su vínculo con el instrumento ha sido inquebrantable.
Después de la secundaria, Sandra continuó su educación en la Universidad de California, Davis. Allí, obtuvo una Licenciatura en Ciencias en Desarrollo Comunitario y Regional y una Licenciatura en Estudios Chicanos. Además de estos títulos, cultivó su amor por la música al tomarla como asignatura secundaria y unirse a la Sinfónica de UC Davis. Mientras perseguía sus ambiciones académicas, Sandra siguió disfrutando de su pasión por el mariachi, actuando con varios grupos en el norte de California.
Hoy en día, Sandra navega por su vida profesional en la educación superior. Recientemente, obtuvo una Maestría en Liderazgo en la Universidad del Pacífico, especializándose en Innovación y Cambio Organizacional, con un enfoque en investigar las experiencias de las mujeres en la industria del mariachi. Esta investigación ha profundizado su sentido de conexión y propósito compartido dentro de la comunidad mariachi.
Como miembro fundador de Mariachi Bonitas, Sandra ha encontrado un entorno de apoyo y empoderamiento. Atribuye su crecimiento y motivación al dinámico grupo de mujeres que conforman Bonitas. Su membresía en este grupo es una fuente de inmenso orgullo y gratitud para Sandra, quien cree que proporciona un espacio donde sus sueños pueden ser nutridos y respetados.
